Football Completes Game Plan for Arkansas

BATON ROUGE -- LSU put the finishing touches on its on-field preparations for fifth-ranked Arkansas on Wednesday with a two-hour workout in shorts and shoulder pads at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

The Tigers and the Razorbacks square off at 1:30 p.m. CST on Friday in Little Rock. The game will be televised to a national audience by CBS.

LSU’s Wednesday’s workout resembled that off a Thursday session during a normal week with the Tigers going through all phases of the game and concluding with the two-minute drill.

Thursday’s schedule will have the Tigers celebrating Thanksgiving together with a team meal at 10:45 before holding a walk-through at the LSU Indoor Practice Facility. The Tigers will depart for Little Rock at 2:30 p.m.

“We have had a good week of work,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “Our players understand what we’re trying to do on both sides of the ball and are ready to play.

“The short week and the travel can be a problem because it cuts in to your preparation time but I think we have gotten a great deal done this week. The routine becomes unusual around Thanksgiving every year for us because of the short week. This year, it’s our turn to travel, next year Arkansas will be faced with that.”

Miles said linebacker Darry Beckwith practiced on Wednesday and will be ready to play against Arkansas on Friday. Miles also said that safety Jessie Daniels will play against the Razorbacks. Beckwith missed last week’s game against Ole Miss with a knee injury.

LSU Football Broadcast Available in War Memorial Stadium

BATON ROUGE -- Those fans going to Little Rock for the LSU-Arkansas game on Friday can listen to Jim Hawthorne's call of the contest on the LSU Sports Radio Network in and around War Memorial Stadium by tuning their radio to either 95.3 FM, 95.5 FM, 96.3 FM or 98.1 FM.

Kickoff for Saturday's contest is set for 1:42 p.m. CST. The LSU Sports Radio Network begins its pregame show at 11:30 a.m. CST.

This season marks the third year in which the LSU Sports Radio Network will travel with a portable transmitter, which allows Tiger fans within a mile of the stadium the opportunity to hear the LSU radio call of the game during all road games.

LSU's Arnold named to Outland watch list

LSU offensive guard Will Arnold is one of 54 players from across the nation named to the Outland Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Monday. The Outland Trophy has been awarded to the best offensive or defensive lineman in college football since 1946. The winner is selected by the FWAA's All-America Committee, which also selects the association's 25-man All-America Team.Last year, Minnesota's Greg Eslinger won the Outland Trophy.
Arnold, a junior from Gloster, Miss., earned second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2005 despite playing in only eight games for the Tigers. Arnold missed LSU's games against Arkansas and Georgia before returning to the lineup to help the Tigers post a 40-3 win over Miami in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.Against Miami, the Tigers rolled up 468 yards of offense, including a season-best 272 rushing yards, in the win over the Hurricanes. Miamientered the Peach Bowl ranked No. 2 in the nation in total defense and were allowing only 11.9 points a contest. For his efforts in the win over Miami, Arnold was named the to SI.com All-Bowl team.
Arnold enters the 2006 season as one of two returning starters on the offensive line for the Tigers, joining fellow senior Brian Johnson. In two years of action with the Tigers, Arnold has started in 12 games and LSU has a 10-2 mark in those contests, which included a 6-0 record in 2005.With Arnold's mention to the Outland Trophy Watch List, LSU now has players named to preseason lists for four national awards. JoiningArnold on national award watch lists are: defensive back LaRon Landry (Nagurski and Bednarik Trophies); linebacker Ali Highsmith (Bednarik Trophy) and quarterback JaMarcus Russell (Maxwell Trophy). The Tigers open their second season under Les Miles on Sept. 2 when LSU hosts Louisiana-Lafayette at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.

LSU Tigers: Kings of Saturday night

Have Saturday nights ever been better? Nope.
Thank you, Nick Saban. But credit Les Miles. He coaches 'em, and he's recruiting 'em, too.
Pass the gumbo and enjoy the ride.
It could be a long one this season for a team that SN ranks No. 4 in the nation. The problem? A rugged schedule that includes games at Auburn, at Florida and at Tennessee. And visits from Arizona, Fresno State and Alabama also could be problematic.
Where's Emeril? I need a few "BAMS!" dropped in here. Hell, I'll settle for Justin Wilson saying "I garnotee" those will be tough games.
But wait until after LSU's game on the Plains before asking the Tigers
"How y'all are?" That Tale of the Tigers will be the SEC game of the year. Heck, it even may be the NATIONAL game of the year.
Pardon my French (and hyperbole), Auburn, but LSU is abso-flipping-lutely loaded.
Don't be alarmed if Mike the Tiger takes all of this news laying down. He sees it every week while getting pushed around the field in that cage. Here's what he sees at quarterback: JaMarcus Russell is a stud who should be healthy. The big fella even may be a first-round draft choice.
Matt Flynn figures to play in the league, too. Ryan Perrilloux? Well, if he shuts up and listens, he could be good, too.
Not to dash Tabasco on the victory party, but the lines need to be re-worked, and the running backs have to avoid the injury bug.
Not worried? Yeah, I'm not, either. I wouldn't be even if my name was
Tom Dienhartaux and I lived in Thibodaux. The receiving corps drips with talent, and the secondary is the best in the SEC. And I love Miles' two lieutenants: offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher and defensive coordinator Bo Pelini. In fact, I think they are the SEC's best set of coordinators this side of Auburn's brainy duo of offensive coordinator Al Borges and defensive coordinator Will Muschamp.
Wait! I think I just heard Mike roar. Is it Saturday night yet?

LSU Tigers must elevate game in SEC tournament

Reverse worked for the LSU baseball team as far as getting into the Southeastern Conference Tournament that starts today, but it may have to shift to reach the NCAA Tournament next week.
"Yeah, we kind of backed into the tournament, but we're in," LSU senior catcher Matt Liuzza said Tuesday. "Somewhere along the way, we deserved to get in. It might not have been this last weekend, but somewhere along the way we got the wins."
The Tigers (34-22, 13-17 SEC) lost two of three to the SEC's worst team over the weekend at Florida, which ended up rising from last to 11th with its first league series victory since the opening weekend of SEC play. The Gators did not make the SEC Tournament. "They were a team having a worse season than us," said LSU pitcher Clay Dirks, who will start tonight against No. 1 seed Alabama (39-17, 20-10) in a game scheduled for 5 p.m. at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.
LSU got the last parking spot as the eighth seed thanks to Ole Miss hanging on to beat Mississippi State 13-11 on Saturday. Had State won, it would be here and playing SEC co-champion Alabama instead of LSU. The Bulldogs finished 12-17 - a half game behind LSU.
